Celebrating Yu Man Mui's 38 Years of Dedication

BCNC Family Child Care staff, Yu Man Mui, has retired after 38 years of dedication and hard work to Asian immigrant families. She started at BCNC as a early education teacher at the BCNC Acorn Center for Early Education and Care in 1984. After 25 years as a teacher, she transitioned into the role of a home visitor for the BCNC Family Child Care program for the last 13 years.

Presented Research and Best Practices at the 2022 National Conference on Problem Gambling

On Friday, July 22, 2022, BCNC CEO, Ben Hires, Chief Program Officer, Yoyo Yau, and Dr. Heang Rubin presented important findings on problem gambling in the Asian community at the National Conference on Responsible Gambling. They highlighted the many causes of problem gambling in the Asian community and presented a community project in Everette called Project RISE (Resilient Immigrants Striving for Equity) to provide community-based strategies for problem gambling prevention.

Demand for mental health care rising in Asian American communities as more speak openly of struggles

For many Asian immigrants and first or second-generation Asian Americans, mental health is rarely discussed because of cultural differences or simply not having access to resources. At BCNC, we worked to secure state funding to assist in mental health programming for families and youth. Destigmatizing mental health, starting a conversation and increase the number of trained bilingual professionals can be key to helping the Asian American communities.
