Students Get Creative
/Lia Xu, a guqin musician, teaches Chinese culture, history, and language through classical art. She is working on our first K-12 Chinese guqin art education curriculum. Students are taught basic strokes of Chinese calligraphy and have the opportunity to create their own calligraphy projects.
Ava Sophia, a Boston musician, is collaborating with Pao Arts Center on a virtual performance for Red Oak students. Ava teaches a songwriting and music production course with a focus on writing for social change. The students write their own original songs and create instrumental tracks on Ableton, a digital music platform.
Red Oak students also participate in a Chinatown Community Project through designing posters in response to Chinatown reopening. Posters include calls for no more evictions, welcoming back restaurants and schools, and thanking hospital staff.
