BCNC Portrait: Danny Do

Born and raised in Dorchester, Danny Do was a past participant at both the BCNC Acorn Center for Early Education and Care and Youth Program. He is currently completing his internal medicine residency at Cambridge Health Alliance and will continue his career as a primary care physician. His work focuses on providing care for and advocating on behalf of vulnerable populations, including those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, individuals with low health literacy, the homeless, and immigrant communities.

Danny’s interest in medicine was sparked by his mother’s stories of being a nurse in China. Inspired by her altruistic passion for helping others, Danny inherited the same drive to make a difference through medicine.

Danny returned to BCNC when he was a teenager and became involved in the BCNC Youth Program, YouLead, which brings youth together to address real-world social issues, build leadership skills, and foster a supportive community. Reflecting on his time in the program, Danny shared:

“My favorite memory at BCNC was the youth retreat. The experience made me feel deeply connected to the Chinatown community. Through learning about its needs, gaining leadership skills, and understanding the importance of mentorship, I’ve been able to carry those lessons forward—whether teaching medical students or throughout my medical residency.”

In addition to medicine, Danny has a strong passion for languages. His interest in language began in middle school when he felt embarrassed not being able to converse at the dinner table. He spoke Cantonese Chinese with his parents, learned Latin and Mandarin in high school, and embraced Japanese in college. In his free time, Danny has explored Vietnamese, Korean, Spanish, and hopes expand his language skills so he can connect with people who speak different languages as a doctor.
